State of Storied 2024

Following Our Gathering

Storied Family,

Over the last three and a half years, Storied Church has flourished through the incredible generosity of individuals and organizations outside our immediate faith community. Their selfless support has empowered us to pursue our mission of celebrating the story of Jesus while freeing us from the financial pressures often faced by a new church plant navigating the operational costs of a non-profit ministry.

If you weren’t aware, over 85% of our funding this year has come from supporters outside Storied Church! What a testimony to the Lord for encouraging these organizations and people to be so Kingdom-minded toward us! Their belief in our mission has been both humbling and inspiring. Because of their generosity, we’ve been able to focus on what truly matters: serving one another, fostering authentic relationships, and meeting tangible needs with immediacy and compassion.

From day one, Kayla and I made the intentional decision to raise external support for our personal financial needs. This approach has ensured that all funds given within the church go directly toward discipleship, leadership development, missional living, and meeting one another’s financial needs. Additionally, I’ve pursued professional leadership coaching to provide for our family while continuing to invest in Storied’s growth and ministry. This model has allowed Storied to remain steadfast in fulfilling Jesus’ call to love one another in visible and practical ways.

Moving into 2025, there are a couple things I’d like for you to know and consider:

(1) Our 2025 Budget: To plan for the operational costs of being a non-profit ministry, I’ve estimated our 2025 expenses will total approximately $33,000. Here’s the break down:

  • $4,800 for gathering space at CrossFit Falcon View

  • $6,000 for accounting services

  • $2,400 for insurance

  • $3,000 for leadership development (resources and trainings)

  • $9,600 for staff pay and benefits (including Rachel’s leadership of Storied Kids)

  • $1,200 for technology and web services

  • $1,200 for subscriptions (Planning Center, Vimeo, MinistrySafe)

  • $3,000 for local and global mission work

  • $3,000 for Sunday and other gathering needs

***As you can tell, I value a low overhead cost of leading a non-profit ministry. This means that any contributions exceeding the above amount will be channeled into benevolence, encouraging gifts, and addressing urgent needs as they emerge. For example, this past year, we allocated approximately $20,000 to directly support tangible (often immediate) needs within and thru our church. What a joy to be able to do so!***

(2) An Invitation to Give: As we move from the church-plant phase to becoming an established church, outside support will naturally decrease. I anticipate a 60% reduction in external contributions next year—a drop of approximately $2,500 per month. This is quite a large number for how small our budget is. However, this transition invites us, as a church family, to take greater ownership of Storied’s mission and ministry together!

Here’s my request: Would you prayerfully consider committing to a joyful, consistent financial gift?

This isn’t about tithing—I don’t view tithing as a command for the church today. Instead, I’m calling for a spirit of generosity that mirrors our deep love for Jesus and our commitment to His church, both locally and globally. This generosity should spring from your devotion to the Lord—rooted in trust, reliance, and gratitude—and overflow from a joyful heart that seeks to bless others.

I pray that Storied has profoundly impacted your faith journey, and I urge you to consider how you can actively sustain and strengthen our missional work. While finances don’t define the church, they serve as vital tools to advance Kingdom work: equipping disciples, fostering obedience to Jesus, and ensuring that everyone’s needs are met through our collective generosity. Kayla and I have always counted it a deep joy to contribute in Storied’s mission and will continue to do so, knowing that every dollar helps transform lives and furthers Christ’s Kingdom.

Take time to pray and reflect on what a joyful and consistent gift might look like for you and your family. Involve your loved ones in this decision and consider how your contributions can strengthen Storied’s community and ministry impact. You can set up an account at Storied Giving. By the end of January 2025, we’ll have a clearer understanding of our resources and will plan our year accordingly.

If you have any questions, I’d be more than happy to connect. You can reach me directly at tim@storiedchurch.com or 719.355.9107. This letter was written with months of prayer and careful consideration to ensure my motives are clear and sincere. I pray that, though typed out, my heart, as you have come to know, is understood.

I’m deeply thankful for each of you and excited to see how God continues to work through Storied Church. Let’s step forward together, living and serving all for Jesus.

All for Jesus,

Tim
